There are many challenges facing fabrication technologies for tissue-engineered scaffolds with respect to the several structural, mechanical, chemical and material properties required. There are several fabrication techniques to produce tissue-engineered scaffolds due to the multiple requirements. Each fabrication technique has unique advantages along with its drawbacks. The fabrication techniques should provide comfortable, reproducible and cost-effective production. In this study, melt molding methods combined with a particulate leaching technique as applicable, reproducible and cost-effective technology for tissue-engineered scaffold fabrication are reviewed. Special attention was focused on foam injection molding as a promising cost-effective and simple technology for fabrication of tissue-engineered scaffolds. A combination of foam injection molding and particulate leaching as a new technology for fabrication of tissue-engineered scaffold was also reviewed in detail.
