Abstract

Solar methane reforming in the coexisting of a gas turbine, a combustion chamber, a CO2 capture, and recycle system is represented. The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare the mentioned hybrid system within several reforming technologies (dry-reforming, bi- reforming, tri-reforming, and auto-reforming). After comparing the reforming systems, the performance of the gas turbine, the solar tower plant and the CO2 capture and recycle unit is studied in each case. The side reactions are neglected during this study. The system is analyzed with respect to both energy and exergy approaches. Solar tower characteristic evaluations are done, and the required heliostats field area for each system is specified. The reforming process and its exhaust gases are studied. Reforming process completion occurred at 1200 K in all four reforming systems. Bi-reforming and auto-reforming are proved to absorb the least thermal energy from the solar tower plant. The combustion chamber is noticed as the main exergy destructive component. Among all, the tri-reforming coupled system resulted in the highest power production of gas turbine, in which the efficiency of gas turbine reaches 42.5 % for 1200 K temperature of the reformer.
