چکیده
|
This study investigates the impact of implementing the IMSCI scaffolding model on EFL learners' writing skills at Rahma School in Iraq. To this aim, a quasi-experimental study was conducted with twenty male and female participants. These individuals were assigned to control and experimental groups based on initial test results (Pretest). Control group members received writing instructions as they used to, while experimental group participants were exposed to ten sessions of writing instruction in light of the IMSCI scaffolding model of writing instruction. Necessary data were collected by writing an essay for a pre and post-test under the supervision of teachers and one of the researchers. Writing samples were scored using a validated checklist (Heaton, 1988). The study's findings revealed that the experimental group increased their writing skills by 43.3%, but the control group only improved their writing skills by 5.3%. Accordingly, the IMSC-based instruction led to positive improvements in various aspects of students' writing skills. Notably, following this model enabled the teacher to focus on a specific aspect of the learner's weaknesses and take steps to fortify them. The findings of this research can greatly help teachers who intend to enhance their students' achievement in writing skills. School administrators and educational policymakers can also benefit from the illuminating results of the study and invest more budget on training instructors in this regard.
