Abstract

In the present study a new solar-based integrated energy system include an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) with thermoelectric generator (TEG) and a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer is investigated. Energy and exergy model for the system implemented in the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) code and linearly solved. With linking between MATLAB software and EES, different optimization scenarios is examined. The result of numerical analysis reveals that with incorporating TEG module in the system 14 kW electrical power energy can be recovered from dissipated heat in condenser. In addition, comparative energy and exergy analysis between two integrated systems e.g., with and without TEG module indicate that the total exergy destruction of studied system with and without TEG are 1925.23 kW and 1977.98 kW, respectively. Different optimization scenarios based on exergy efficiency, total exergy destruction and daily hydrogen production as objective functions is defined. Comparison of optimization values between based case and three-objective optimized system represents that exergy efficiency shows 2.3% improvement and exergy destruction rate represents 791.5 kW decrement.
