Abstract

The importance of membrane technology in separation of CO2 from the other gases made it intresting to be contineusly developed. Mixed gas separation test (CO2/N2) was studied to investigate the effects of graphene oxide (GO)-polycitrate nanoparticles on the properties of improving gas separation performance. The effect of the presence of nanoparticles in the polymer membrane matrix on the increase of the selectivity value was realized. Inserting GO-polycitrate nanoparticles with three different contents (0.5-0.1-0.25) into the polymeric membrane prepared by polyvinyl chloride was evaluated. During the tests, the optimized amount of nanoparticles in the membrane was 0.5% by weight, and the results of this study showed that the permeability of CO2 gas was equal to 14.3 barrer, and the selectivity value was also equal to 8.4. The prepared membranes also were tested for their morphology changes to justify the observations. The presence of modified GO nanoparticles in membrane matrix create more porous membrane with different bulk structure.
