This paper presents an optimized method for controlling the pitch angle of a wind turbine in the hybrid renewable energy system in order to achieve the best performance of load demand. Firefly optimization approach (FA) is performed as optimization searching algorithm due to its advantages over the other optimization methods. The hybrid system consists of wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, and storage batteries. A simple and cost effective control with DC-DC converters is used for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and hence maximum power is extracted from the wind turbine and the photo voltaic array. The objective is to design an optimized controller for the pitch angle of the wind turbine to reduce the losses and to improve efficiency of the hybrid system. The system modeling is developed in MATLAB-SIMULINK.
