Abstract

The collapse characteristics of a strongly driven gas bubble are studied using the new modified radial equations that take into account the total effect of the liquid compressibility, shear and bulk viscosity. Mass and heat diffusion across the bubble interface and chemical reactions inside the bubble are considered to accurately simulate the thermodynamics of the gas inside the bubble. The collapse characteristics of an argon bubble in water are determined using the newly introduced and the Gilmore radial equations. The results indicate that when the bubble is strongly driven in liquids of higher viscosity, there is a noticeable deviation in the values of maximum temperature and, in particular, the maximum pressure and sonoluminescence intensity obtained by the two models. In the range of parameters investigated in this study, a change in maximum pressure up to 5% and in total light intensity up to 7% are observed.
