Grid-scale battery energy storage systems have been at the forefront of storage technologies in the past decade due to prominent features. Various research has demonstrated diverse applications of stationary battery systems, especially in distribution networks. Due to the modular structure, the battery system components can be compacted and placed wholly in a container. The battery container can move in the grid utilizing a truck or train. A truck-mounted mobile battery system (MBS)-transported using a road transportation network- is a viable solution, especially in an electric power distribution network. Their spatiotemporal bus connection changeability can benefit the grid from different aspects. These benefits result from addressing diverse network operation challenges ranging from normal to emergency states. Besides, the MBSs can be deployed as a mobile electric vehicle (EV) charging station by adding required charging piles. In this case, they can profit both grid and the EV owners in many ways. They can also supply a set of drones used for aerial temporary communication links established for disaster management. This talk will have a neat look at the topic supported by real-world commercial experiences.
