Abstract

A sharp increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases, especially CO2, due to industrial activities, caused global warming. Amine-based CO2 absorption process is the most effective large-scale absorption technology but using this method consumes a lot of energy for the regeneration of amine solvents. Biphasic solutions for have attracted particular attention due to their potential in significantly reduce energy consumption The present study examines the process of removing carbon dioxide from a biphasic solution of monoethanolamine (MEA) / water / n-butanol in order to regenerate the rich phase of chemical absorbent. The removal percentage of carbon dioxide was investigated in four different mass concentration ratios of the solution and at four different temperatures. According to the obtained experimental results, with the increase in temperature, the percentage of desorption and the speed of removal in each mass concentration ratio increase. Moreover, among the different ratios investigated, the (water: alcohol) ratio of 5:2 has the highest percentage of gas desorption at the highest temperature.
