Abstract. In multi component maintenance planning, economies of scale can typically be achieve through group maintenance strategies. This study focuses on a heterogeneous multi unit system and formulates two cost minimizing maintenance policies. Using renewal theoretic reasoning, the expected number of failures over a finite interval is numerically estimated, forming a key element of the models. The analysis also shows how one policy reduces to alternative strategies under specific conditions. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the models’ performance and the resulting cost expressions.
