Abstract

The present study investigates the effect of ultrasonic waves on the CO2 desorption process from a biphasic solution of monoethanolamine (MEA)/ normal butanol/ water as an intensified desorber. The desorption percentage, desorption rate and energy consumption were investigated under different alcohol to water mass ratios, temperature and power of the ultrasonic device. According to the experimental results, the concentration ratio of n-butanol and water played a significant role in determining the energy consumption and desorption percentage. It was found that the ratio of 2:5 exhibited the highest percentage of carbon dioxide desorption and the lowest energy consumption compared to other ratios of mass concentration. On the other hand, the ratio of 3:4 has the highest carbon dioxide desorption rate and cyclic capacity. The experimental results demonstrated that application of ultrasonic waves and biphasic solution significantly reduced the energy consumption for solution regeneration in comparison of benchmark MEA 30 wt% up to 47%.
